Black & White Day at The Belmont Stakes – A Saratoga Soirée
The only thing faster than the horses was the rate at which the wine disappeared.
This year, The Belmont Stakes took elegant residence in Saratoga—and I couldn’t have asked for a better excuse to spend five glorious days trackside. Black & White Day, in particular, set the tone: sharp hats, bold fashion, and pageantry that pairs best with bubbles.
We spent most of our time at the 1863 Club room, perched right on the track with front-row views of the thundering finish lines. The atmosphere? Electric. The food? Divine. And the wine? Flowing faster than the odds could update.
There’s something magical about watching these magnificent animals fly past while holding a perfectly chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc. It’s sport meets sophistication—and I’m absolutely here for it.
Moments I Won’t Forget:
- The whisper of wind as the horses flew past the rail
- A charcuterie board so well-styled I considered framing it
- The staff at 1863 treating everyone like royalty—even those of us who bet on longshots
- Rachel... trying to pet a pony and nearly becoming part of the race lineup
Wine Pairing Takeaway:
If you’re ever at a track event—go for a crisp white or a brut rosé. Something celebratory, slightly chilled, and always photogenic. I sipped from my heart-shaped wine glass and felt like a winner either way.
Until next time, Saratoga. I’ll be back, with a bigger hat and an even better wine list.
