SALTED CARMEL APPLE PIE
Ingredients
4 Honey crisps apples – peeled, cored and sliced
1 can of Carmel Apple Pie filling
½ stick butter
½ cup brown sugar
1 TBL spoon granulated sugar
¾ cup of chopped pecans
½ Tsp spoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground ginger
½ cup of Spiced Rum or Brandy
Jar Mrs. Richardson’s caramel sauce
1 egg for wash on crust
2 pie crust – I use store bought crust. Bake 1 crust to use for pie. Follow package direction. Save the other for the top.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350
On medium heat melt butter in large skillet. Add sliced apples and pecans, stir a few minutes then add cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground ginger. Cook until apples start to soften. Turn on low and add brown sugar and liquor. Cook until sugar is melted. Add canned pie filling. Mix well and let simmer a few minutes.
Take baked pie shell and drizzle caramel sauce over the bottom of crust. Add pie filling. Place dough from second pie crust place over the top of pie filling and pinch dough together around the edges. Make four ½ inch slits on the top of pie crust. Place on cookie sheet and wash with egg.
Bake for 30 mins. Serve with caramel swirl ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce over the top.
